a leaf falls, a symbol of

every time he logs-on . . .  he twinges 
hoping there’s no e-mail from her . . .
or sighs sad there’s no e-mail from her—

he sighs, but keeps wishing he’d stop, like a bad habit:
he goes on lettering her eyes
