Retribution of the Potatoes
Kneeling in light falling upon the floor
Suff’ring sorrow harvested through my sin
My guilty heart had opened wide the door
Through which the lustful, greedy spook slipped in
As peasants bent over their modest fare
I search the soil for relief of my stain
But each potato holds the weight I share
Of shame I attempt to throw off in vain
O Love, demand the price this flesh has wrought
Make retribution scour my ev’ry bone
Allow me grace to right this ruin I brought
Allow me no more errors to condone
If I must bleed to earn a better way
Let blood run as I learn through night and day
