Wendell’s Heart
She contemplated her world and concentrated
On what made her happy enough to run
And wag her tail and urge you on to follow her.
She was a growler and a biter.
My finger will long remember that she was here
And did not feel like cooperating that day
I tried to put her outside.
For a dozen years, her pretty, little face stole hearts
And her fluffy little body snuggled against you
When she was so inclined;
Then her little heart broke, and she went spilling
Into heaven with light for a body,
Taking our love along
Leaving us rich with memories.
