A Joyful Noise!

(Companion piece to “Beyond the Moon” for the grandchildren)

Come play with me; we’ll make a joyful noise!
We’ll bang and crash and shake the house all day
Hurry! Bang your loudest noisiest toys!

Come sing with me; we’ll lift our merry voice
We’ll wake the folks, won’t let them sleep today
Come play with me; we’ll make a joyful noise!

We’ll thump the pots and rattle every choice
And make the dogs bark so loud as we play
Hurry! Bang your loudest noisiest toys!

We’ll wolf down food and laugh like savage boys
We’ll spill the milk and peas in grand display
Come play with me; we’ll make a joyful noise!

We’ll sing so loud with in neither tune nor poise
And keep old dad and mom’s patience at bay
Hurry! Bang your loudest noisiest toys!

We’ll scream and shout so loud we lose our voice
Till Mom and Dad cry, “Stop! Go out and play!”
Come play with me; we’ll make a joyful noise!
Hurry! Bang your loudest noisiest toys!
